...Sun-He
was working on Higgins. There was a hole
in Higgins shoulder with a piece of metal sticking out the back. Sun-he was pouring some powder into the wound
and trying to throw a bandage around the area of the wound as blood pulsed
out. The clotting medicine didn’t seem
to be effective enough to stop the bleeding, but it didn’t stop Higgins from continuing with the creed, as his lips moved with no
sound, even though he was barely conscious
Nearing them, Plack
was down on one knee. He had been the
furthest away from the explosion and had been the first to recover, although no
one had noticed it. He was shooting down
at the enemies, and knew he had gotten at least two of them. He wasn’t sure if the hostiles had been
wounded or if he had killed any of them, but he knew they hadn't stopped firing.
The car bomb explosion had been strong enough to unsnap Plack’s helmet and loosen it from
his head. The Kevlar had deflected a
small piece of the car as it bounced off his head causing the snap to brake, but
Plack’s nugget wasn’t hurt.
Plack
was on his third magazine as he began to recite the next line of the Ranger
Creed.
“Never
shall I fail my comrades…,” It was then that the grenade came flying over what
was left of the barrier, and landed right between where Sun-He was working on
Higgins and where Brown was on the other side of the two, working on loading another magazine.
Without
another thought Plack dropped his rifle, and jumped towards the grenade. His
one hand pulled down his helmet covering the grenade, his body followed the
helmet and covered that.
There
was a blinding flash, and then the past rushed before Plack’s eyes...
